The pattern on this piece mirrors the view from Black Balsam Knob in the Pisgah Forest of North Carolina.
This bowl features a short “hidden” foot, taken in part from an iconic teabowl shape — which causes the piece to appear to float above the surface on which it sits.
I made a limited series of each style of these vases and bowls by staining my white porcelain, and layering it to create a stratified effect.
The exterior is brilliant unglazed porcelain, and the interior has a glossy clear glaze over the white clay.
