Similar to one of my floating bowls, the pattern on this piece mirrors one of the views from Black Balsam Knob in the Pisgah Forest of North Carolina.
Using the method I developed to create my Ridge vases, I made just a few of these large bowls by staining my white porcelain a range of hues, and layering it to create a stratified, ridgelike effect.
The exterior is brilliant unglazed porcelain, and the interior has a glossy clear glaze over the white clay.
