Sunrise Smokies Hemisphere Bowl — Thunderhead
These are the mountains I saw the most when i lived in western NC — the pattern on this piece mirrors views from points on the Appalachian Trail near Thunderhead Mountain in eastern Tennessee.
The exterior is brilliant unglazed porcelain, and the interior is glazed glossy white.
I make these large bowls by pigmenting my white porcelain a deep blue-green, layering it in gradually lighter shades to create a stratified, ridgelike effect.
