The bands of striking black and white reference traditional black iron- and manganese-decorated porcelain, while this vase’s overall design derives from memories of the bright crab pot buoys that punctuated my childhood growing up on the Pamlico Sound in North Carolina.
The exterior is brilliant unglazed porcelain, and the interior has a glossy clear glaze over the white clay.
