Large Sofu Floating Bowl

This is a large statement piece that radiates calm while embracing the ephemeral nature of our days and nights here on earth. 
I made this piece with an aggregated porcelain clay body with added minerals, manganese and iron. I then created the crackled finish on these bottles with a traditional technique I learned during my woodfiring days. I then emphasize the crackling with an oxide wash. The term “sofu” was given to this technique by my senpai… It is a casual term for “grandpa” in Japanese, which I feel fits this technique particularly well.
 Due to the fragile nature of the crackle treatment on this piece, local pick up only.
